Rhode Island's Best Places for Lunch

Rhode Island's Best Places for Lunch

Lunch in Rhode Island is a gamble you always win, whether you’re chasing a perfect clam cake by the water or a pistachio crab cake under a chandelier. The state is small, but the table spans from CAV’s glamorous attic vibes to Karie’s Kitchen’s gluten-free cinnamon buns off Route 1, and that’s before you even get to the duck meatballs in Providence.

We ate our way through the list so you don’t have to deliberate. Trust us, you’ll want a reservation and a stretchy waistband.

Here’s where to go.

Walking into CAV feels like stepping into someone's very glamorous attic, if that attic had a full bar and a kitchen that means business. The antiques and chandeliers catch your eye first, but the clam chowder is what will keep your attention. It's top-notch, creamy without being heavy. The pistachio crab cake is a standout, a little nutty, a little sweet, a lot of crab. Service was attentive and friendly, the kind that makes you want to linger over a second cup of coffee. The whole place hums with a fun, lively energy. It's a lunch that feels like an occasion.

Attentive, on-the-ball service
Easy reservations for brunch seating

The Patio on Broadway has mastered the art of the weekend lunch that feels like a mini vacation. We started with a mimosa flight, and the flavors were anything but typical. The crispy duck meatballs with ricotta are a must, all savory and soft in the best way. Then the chicken and waffle sandwich came along and frankly stole the show, a messy, glorious pile of goodness. Service was on the ball, refilling our waters and checking in without hovering. Getting a brunch reservation was surprisingly easy, which made the whole experience even sweeter. I left feeling sun-kissed and thoroughly happy.

Storied atmosphere, upstairs seating
Vegan options worth exploring lightly

Cassarino's is the kind of place that feels like it's been there forever, in the best possible way. The atmosphere is storied, especially if you snag one of the upstairs tables. We ordered the arancini, and they were fresh and perfectly executed, all crispy outside and molten inside. The pasta came in generous portions, creamy and comforting. The service was friendly, though the solo staff member was clearly doing the work of three people, so patience is a virtue here. They even had some vegan options, which we explored lightly and found worthwhile. It's not the fastest lunch, but it's a charming one.

Insanely good, the kind of thing you dream about on a hot day. The staff was friendly, welcoming, and accommodating, even when we took forever to decide. It's casual, it's quick, and it hits the spot. A solid choice for a no-fuss, satisfying meal.

We came to Oberlin for an anniversary dinner, but honestly, I'd come back for lunch in a heartbeat. The pasta dishes are unique, the kind of creative combinations that make you pause and just savor. We caught a glimpse of the open kitchen and the wood-fired oven, and there's a charm to that. They also do movie nights in the courtyard, which sounds delightful. It's a little more upscale, but the atmosphere is lively, not stuffy. A memorable meal, through and through.
